5 Lies We Tell Ourselves About Making Money From Home (and the Truth)

If you’ve ever stared longingly at someone working from a cozy coffee shop while you're elbow-deep in diapers, dishes, and toddler negotiations, you’ve probably thought:
"Man, must be nice."

But when it comes to actually making money from home yourself, the excuses sneak in fast — like fruit snack crumbs under your couch cushions. 😬
Today, we’re busting the biggest lies moms tell themselves about working from home... and dropping a few hard (but loving) truth bombs along the way.

Lie #1: “I Don’t Have Time.”

The Truth:
You don’t have endless free time — but you do have pockets of time that can change your life if you use them intentionally.
Nap times. Early mornings. That golden hour after bedtime.

You don’t need 8 hours a day.
You need consistent focused hours — even just 5-10 hours a week to start — and a plan that fits around your real life.

(P.S. Built Around Bedtime was literally designed for moms just like you.)

Lie #2: “I’m Not Techy Enough.”

The Truth:
Were you born knowing how to work an iPhone? Me neither.
You learned it. Same goes for virtual assistant skills.

Most of what you need (like inbox management, scheduling, social media, basic tech) can be learned faster than you think — especially when you have a roadmap (hi, that’s what I teach!).

You’re smarter and more capable than you give yourself credit for.

Lie #3: “Nobody Would Pay Me to Do This.”

The Truth:
Businesses pay people to:

  • Check their emails

  • Schedule their calendars

  • Set up simple tech tools

  • Manage their podcast uploads

  • Answer customer questions

Stuff you are probably already doing in your own life.
You just haven’t been paid for it... yet.

Lie #4: “I Have to Wait Until Life Calms Down.”

The Truth:
Life with kids is a permanent state of organized chaos.
Waiting until everything is "perfect" is like waiting until your toddler voluntarily puts on pants — it might happen eventually, but don't bet your dreams on it.

Start messy. Start small. Start now.

Lie #5: “It’s Too Late for Me.”

The Truth:
It’s not too late.
It’s just too scary sometimes to start something new.

But scary doesn’t mean wrong — it usually means you're stepping into something that could change everything.

Your dream isn’t expired. Your opportunity hasn’t passed you by.
You are right on time, mama.
