From Naptime to New Clients: My Journey to a Thriving VA Business

What if I told you the key to a flexible, fulfilling, work-from-home career was already in your hands—before you even change out of your PJs?

I built a thriving virtual assistant business without a big following, without a fancy office setup, and definitely without working 40+ hours a week. It all started as a side-hustle, squeezed between a full-time job and dreams of future motherhood.

Hey, I’m Lauren—VA mentor, systems strategist, and mom building a business between bedtimes. I started my virtual assistant journey with one goal in mind: to earn real income without sacrificing the life I wanted.

I actually started building my VA business before I even had kids. At the time, I was working full-time and growing my business on the side because I craved flexibility. I knew that someday, when I did have a family, I wanted to be present—for the milestones and the messy moments. Now, when my kids wake up from naps crying or come down with a fever, I get to be there. No guilt. Just me showing up for my family and my business.

What started as a side-hustle during off hours became a thriving VA business. And now? I teach other women how to do the same—because building a business around motherhood isn’t just possible, it’s powerful.

The Day Everything Shifted

Back in my full-time job, I felt boxed in. I needed more than just a paycheck. I wanted purpose, flexibility, and the freedom to create a life on my terms. Enter: the world of virtual assistance. It was the perfect fit for the season I was in—and it gave me a head start on designing the future I knew I wanted.

Baby Steps in Business

I started small and scrappy—no fancy tools, no big audience. My first client came from a Facebook group (yep, really). I leaned into the skills I already had, figured out what services I actually enjoyed, and created my own version of success—one client at a time.

What I Know Now

Through all the trial and error, here’s what I’ve learned:

  • You don’t need to know everything to get started.

  • Client-ready skills matter more than certificates.

  • Confidence grows after you take messy action.

Around here, you won’t find fluffy courses or overpriced programs. I’m all about:

  • Clear, simple steps

  • Client-ready skills that matter

  • Plug-and-play templates that save hours

  • Strategies that work around motherhood—not against it
